Manganese Greensand
Manganese Greensand is formulated from a glauconite greensand which is capable of reducing iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide from water through oxidation and filtration.
Once dissolved iron and manganese come into contact with manganese filter media, they get oxidized and precipitate at the bottom of the filter bed. Similarly, the media oxidizes hydrogen sulphide in water to Sulphur precipitate. These precipitates are drained out by backwashing.
To regenerate the oxidizing ability of manganese greensand, a weak potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution is used. The media then automatically gets cleaned and restored during the backwash.
