Pure calcium carbonate or calcite is a strong filter media which can balance the acidity of water and prevent water fixtures from corrosion. It reacts with hydrogen and hydroxyl ions present in the water and changes its pH to turn it neutral, thus making it fit to use.

Besides leaving stains on fixtures, acidic water can also corrode pipes and let harmful mineral seep and dissolve into drinking water. This can be harmful to health. Additionally, lower pH also changes makes the water taste metallic. If the acidity of water is high, there can also be a possibility of the presence of toxic metals such as lead and cadmium.

Calcite provides an excellent solution to this problem by correcting the pH of the water and bringing in to a non-corrosive level. So, when acidic water is sent into contact with calcite for treatment, calcite starts to dissolve in it slowly, changing it pH and making it more neutral.

When calcite bed is depleted, it requires periodic back washing and replenish to ensure high services rates.
